Privacy Policy for Audio Meter
Effective date: September 5, 2026
Audio Meter (“the Extension”) is a Chrome extension that displays real-time audio levels, stereo imaging, and a spectrum analyzer for the browser tab you choose to monitor.
Data Collection
The Extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data, browsing history, audio content, or any other user information to external servers.
All audio processing happens entirely on your device:
- Tab audio is captured locally using Chrome’s tabCapture API.
- Analysis (peak levels, approximate LUFS, correlation, spectrum) is performed in memory inside an offscreen document.
- No audio samples, levels, or metadata are saved to disk or sent over the network.
Permissions
- activeTab – Used only when you click the extension icon, so the Extension can identify the current tab.
- tabCapture – Required to access the audio stream of the tab you choose to meter.
- offscreen – Required to run the audio analysis in a background document (Manifest V3 requirement).
- storage – Used only for temporary session storage to track which tab is currently being monitored. This data is never synced and is cleared when the browser session ends.
Third Parties
The Extension does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
